Lanthionine is a naturally occurring non-protein amino acid formed by the cross-linking of two alanine residues via a thioether bond at the β-carbon atom. It constitutes the key component of the cyclic peptide antibiotic lantibiotic. Lanthionine exhibits inhibitory activity against diaminopimelate (DAP) epimerase, with a Ki value of 420 μM.
